I will be doing Q&A at the screening of Yasmin Ahmad’s ‘Talentime’ at the Tokyo International Film Festival on the 21st of October 5pm. I will also perform a song for Yasmin by way of tribute.
Others invited for the Q&A session are Orked Ahmad (Yasmin’s sister) and Kiki Sugino (co-producer of Wasurenagasu).
The screening will be at Toho Cinemas, Roppongi Hills, Screen 2. If you are in Tokyo and would like to come, book your tickets HERE. It is expected to sell out quickly - so hurry!
Other Malaysian films at TIFF include Ho Yuhang’s latest ‘At The End Of Daybreak’, which I music directed. The film won the NETPAC prize for best Asian Film at Lorcano Film Festival 2009. Book tickets HERE.
Yuhang’s ‘Raindogs’, in which I had a supporting role, is also being screened. Info HERE.

Hi Pete,
Hello. My name is Sawaka and I am Pam’s (Melur’s) friend and I got the chance to meet Yasmin in Ipoh at the set of “Talentime” when I was visiting Pamela in Malaysia.
I was today at the screening for “Talentime” in TIFF and I was really touched from hearing your song “blue”. Also, the episode you shared with us about how you came to work with her on “Talentime” and how now you know who you had written “I go” for was very moving and I think it made the whole audience cry.
Thank you so much for sharing that story with us. It must have been hard for you but we really appreciated it.
I actually thought that that song was written for the movie so it was surprising to hear that it was not. I guess it was meant to be.
I didn’t get the chance to thank you and congratulate you in person but those songs in Talentime are wonderful and they still keep sounding in my head even hours after i’ve heard them.
The movie “talentime” made me realize what a great loss Yasmine’s departure is, not only in Malaysian cinema but the world’s, but at the same time, it reassured me that her works will keep on living forever.
Thank you again and please keep on making great music!
Fellow music lover and Yasmin’s inspiree,
Sawaka
