After a bit of a hiatus, Songwriters Round is back for two nights on the 15th and 16th of April! This time it will feature Melina William, Reza Salleh, me and Yohei Miyake (all the way from Japan). Free Admissions. Come support!!

Founded and produced by Pete Teo, the Songwriters’ Round has long been the premium showcase event for singer songwriters in Malaysia. Just as the talent scouts who frequent the show are often some of the most illustrious members of the music industry, performers who have played ‘the round’ make up the ‘who’s who’ list of the homegrown singer songwriter community. If you have ever doubted the depth of songwriting talent that Malaysia boasts today, this hugely popular show is the place to dispel it.

In the 26th edition of the Songwriters’ Round, we are proud to present to you the following artists:

Ask any cognoscenti and you’ll get the same reply – that Reza will likely be the next stalwart of the KL underground scene to break into the mainstream. Blessed with an ability to write good songs with strong lyrics, he is a superb solo live performer – and as if to emphasize that the Almighty is generous when she bestows gifts on the gifted – he is also smooth and smart. His many fans already know that Reza is magic – come see why!

Other than being the creative force and lead vocalist of the rock band ‘Tempered Mental’, Melina regularly collaborates with Pete Teo and Reza Salleh. Yet, not many have seen her play solo. This is your chance. And it is a chance you mustn’t miss because her songs are not only gems of compositional sophistication, but they are also filled with verve and commitment. Melina is technically brilliant. She is also charismatic and edgy. Scary good.

Yohei hails from Tokyo. He began his career as leader of the band ‘Doggystyle’ before embarking on his solo career. As well as being a regular feature in many Japanese music festivals, Yohei organizes festivals, tours constantly and is a vocal socio-political activist. His music is upbeat, reggae-influenced, inspirational and fun. This is a rare opportunity to see one of Japan’s top indie musicians in KL. Come show him a Malaysian welcome!

Pete is a multiple award-winning artist / producer who has been featured on the BBC, NPR, NHK, KBS, and the Bio Channel. His recent credits include the anti-racism hit ‘Here In My Home’, music for the Yasmin Ahmad film ‘Talentime’, the 2010 AJL winning song ‘Pergi’, and the iconic 15Malaysia film project. This gig is a rare appearance by a multi-faceted artist who first made his name as a superb solo performer. Don’t miss it!
